Tulum Airport Fee (TUA): What It Is and Who Pays

What the Airport Use Fee (TUA) is in Tulum, how it is charged and who is exempt.

The Airport Use Fee (TUA) is a charge Mexican airports levy on passengers departing on commercial flights. It is included in your ticket price: you do not pay it separately at the airport.

How it is charged

  • The amount differs for domestic and international flights.
  • It is itemized in the taxes and fees section of your ticket.
  • It may change during the year; the current amount is the one shown by the airline at the time of purchase.

Who does not pay it

  • Infants under two who do not occupy a seat.
  • Connecting passengers, according to each airport’s conditions.
  • Accredited diplomats, as established by regulation.
If you cancel a non-refundable ticket, you can ask the airline to refund the TUA, since it is only owed when you fly.
